Why has Old Dutch Galaxy Food Center apparently pulled out as an advertiser on WGSR Star 39?

Could it possibly be because of a certain anti-Barack Obama sign that WGSR general manager Charles Roark devoted obscene amounts of airplay and screentime to this past Friday afternoon, and then again on Monday?

The answer to that question is, evidently, "yes".

Old Dutch Galaxy had been a major advertiser for WGSR. A chain of four grocery stores around the Danville and Chatham area in Virginia, Old Dutch Galaxy had been running updated commercials every week (on a station that was still running spots for the Reidsville Christmas parade last week, mind ya...).

But the word from our friends around south-central Virginia, is that Roark's constant harping about a sign calling Obama a "bastard" and his mother a "slut" was way over the top and into the realm of completely inappropriate behavior.

I doubt that this lesson will be anything but lost on Charles Roark, who has abandoned responsible broadcasting ethics for tabloid-style trash that caters to the least common denominator.

Except now, WGSR has lost one of its bigger clients because of Roark's reckless behavior.

But I'm pretty confident that Roark won't care, and he probably even told the Old Dutch Galaxy guys as much when they pulled out, since cult leader Johnny Robertson can always be relied upon to make up for the loss via all those thousands of dollars coming in from "the Mysterious Texans"(tm).

Seriously though: I've been arguing for awhile that the image conveyed by WGSR's management is a detriment to the commerce of this area. Does anyone now doubt the veracity of that contention?

It's a story that you will only find on The Knight Shift! /charlesroarkbrag

That is definitly a black eye for Star News. Old Dutch is a good company with good standing. They don't need to waste their money by giving it to WGSR.

Another example of tabloid journalism.

You're obsessed aren't you, Chris?

Tune in to Star 39 right now. Chunky Roark is backtracking, caving in, doing damage control. He looks scared.

Chris and Charles were big Buddys when He was working at that Hillbilly Station.......

Obsession with anything can destroy families. lives, livlihoods. It's sad when people become obsessed.

I absolutely agree, and that's why it's a good thing to balance one's life out with a myriad of interests.

You wanna know what's been the number one subject that's drawn traffic to this blog in the past few days? Popcorn Sutton, the moonshiner. This site even passed along a firsthand report from the courtroom in Tennessee. I've probably posted about Sutton in the past few months, more than I have about WGSR, Johnny Robertson etc.

Does that mean that I'm obsessed with moonshining? :-P

This Obsession with WGSR and Johnny Robertson has already changed someones Family and Life

C'mon, Chris, you post more about Charles and Johnny and that station than most anything else. You can't stop talking about it. You worked there, and all was fine while you were there, then when you left, for whatever reason, it became a house of horrors. Well, except when you used it for your campaign and that schooluniforms fiasco, then it was a great station. Remember? When you got into it with Charles over Johnny, then the place was going to hell in a handbasket in your estimation. You talk out of both sides of your mouth, Chris. Popcorn Sutton my ass.

Chris Knight said...

The person posting at 4:35, I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

And truth be known, I would have much preferred that Roark left my commercial alone, and let it speak for itself, rather than make hay about it as he did. Even that was subject to his tabloid television mentality. It was unfair to the other candidates and I even told Roark so at the time. He didn't care.

But I will grant you: getting to do that commercial did lead to some very cool stuff... of which I am not at liberty to divulge at the present time but Lord willing, y'all shall be finding more about in the not-too-distant future.

4:35 is talking about your obsession and Johnny's obsession.

Both obsessions are ruining lives and families.

Wake up, Chris. Snap out of it!

Robertson has admitted that he is out to "defeat and destroy" those that he perceives as his enemies. Those being decent folks minding their own business and trying to worship God as best they understand Him.

What Robertson is doing, isn't right.

A wiser man than I once observed that all it takes for evil to win in this world, is for good people to do nothing.

I don't even consider myself a "good" person (in keeping with what Paul wrote about the subject)...

...but at least I'm trying to stop bad people like Robertson from hurting others.

It's not important that I win. All that matters is that I try.

I trust God with the results in His timing.

At least when the day's done, I won't have to admit that I was complacent during my time in this world.

That's not the task that God has given to just a few, friend. He's given that to everyone.

And that's the best that I can put it.

I think maybe 4:35 is talking about how obsessions can break apart even the best of relationships. Just a guess.

Chris Knight said...

Well, I'll agree with that, even if I'm not sure if I follow you...

Chris Knight said...

By the way, I "bagged and tagged" where some of y'all have been writing from...

...and I can't say that I'm all that surprised.

Doesn't look like the timing was all THAT coincidental, parse that as you will.

Anonymous said...

Bagging and tagging? So that means that you want to expose your critics, Chris? Wow, so much for free speech...

Chris Knight said...

Not really. But when a pattern persist, the curious mind has a tendency to investigate such things.

How many of the comments above came from Star 39 or followers of Johnny Robertson? Most of them obviously. Chris must have stepped on some toes with his reporting. The message is irefutable so they must shoot the messenger. And like others have said Chris was the first to defie Johnny Robertson. Chris showed that he controls the station and gives Charles his marching orders. Looks like he's not being obsessed, he's only doing the job that others are supposed to be doing.

Chris Knight said...

You have completely lost me. I have no idea what you are talking about.

If you like, shoot me an e-mail at theknightshift@gmail.com and perhaps you can jog my recollection.

By the way, if I have "followers", I'll be the first to tell them that I'm as fallen as any person, and they shouldn't be following me to begin with.

Anonymous said...

By the way, I "bagged and tagged" where some of y'all have been writing from..."

Threatening to expose the poster's identity is the first thing Chris does when he starts to feel uncomfortable with the comments.

His second defense is to delete unfavorable (non-cult member) comments.

Unfavorable comments threaten the stability of the cult.

"Looks like he's not being obsessed, he's only doing the job that others are supposed to be doing."

Really?

Who should be doing it? The News & Record? The Reidsville Review? Fox News? If it was such a big issue, why don't they do investigative reports?

I think that writing about Johnny and Charles is a total obsession, and if it wasn't for them, there wouldn't be anything here.

Chris Knight said...

?!?!?

So far, nobody's been deleted on this thread.

I would however say that the above comment is starting to bear some merit, seeing as how it *does* look like a "shoot the messenger" sorta thing. But, that's to be expected anyway.

And as I said the other night, if there is a "cult of Chris Knight" brewing, then I'm going to have to become its first apostate and commit blasphemy by refusing to believe in myself, and just for good measure I'll nail a bunch of theses to the door on the way out...

Anonymous said...

So the deleting has begun.

Chris Knight said...

Once again I am compelled to say...

?!?!?

What was deleted?

I'm checking my e-mail logs now and so far as I can tell, there were no comments that have been made on this thread, that are otherwise unaccounted for.

Please, Chris, get some help now. I beg you to get this thing in control.

The trolls on this blog don't care if your obsession totally consumes you, but I do.

I know you are hurting, but there is an answer. Your friends want to help you through this difficult time, but you have to follow their advice. Don't listen to the trolls.

Chris Knight said...

Folks, I think what we are seeing here is...

...desperation and rage about the cat getting out of the bag regarding a legitimately huge loss of revenue for a television station, stemming from an insanely bad style of management at the top of said station.

And in its own way, WGSR just got a taste of its own medicine, what it has been doing to this entire area.

So instead of doing something to reign in its own madness, said business... is lashing out at a private citizen who discovered from numerous sources about what was going down with Old Dutch, and passed that info along.

And no doubt, WGSR's management will persist in insulting the intelligence of the people of the Reidsville/Danville/Martinsville area, by catering to the lowest common denominator. Because it's management can. Because there is no accountability or conscience there.

Maybe in this day of government bailouts, such a station might apply for "assistance" and get by. But by the strictest definition of capitalism, such behavior is nothing less than downright corporate suicide. Perhaps not tomorrow, but eventually.

So I don't mind the personal attacks that seem to now be coming my way. Heck, I'm surprised they haven't been en route already. You can't put yourself out there and not expect it sooner or later. And whatever it is, hey, I've already made myself vulnerable, on this very blog even. It's not like anyone can do to me what hasn't already been done before.

People can attack me as much as they want.

Parse that as you will.

I'll close with this quote, from a man much greater than myself...

"First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win."

-- Mohandas Gandhi

Chris Knight said...

By the way...

I know exactly who it is, who has been making some of the more personal statements above.

And my respect for this person has now completely evaporated.

I will allow whatever else that I could suggest about the matter, be left as an exercise for the reader. But it shouldn't be that hard for most folks in these parts to extrapolate who it is that I'm referring to.

And out of sincere kindness to that person (even though they don't deserve it) I'm going to close the comments on this thread.

Chris Knight said...

Y'all wanna know who that is above insinuating some personal attack? Okay, here goes...

It is the absolutely utmost height of hypocrisy for this person to even suggest that I am "obsessed with getting someone" when I can easily name five or six people, from just the past few short years, that this same person has sought to utterly destroy as publicly as possible.

Let's put it this way: for this person to suggest that I am "obsessed" with getting someone, is tantamount to King Kong accusing Curious George of being a monkey.

Anyone still wanna guess who is being referred to here?
