Happy fiftieth anniversary to Jaws!
Making us afraid to go into the water for a full half a century.
One of the greatest scenes in film history: Quint (played by Robert Shaw, who practically rewrote his lines) telling the tale of the U.S.S. Indianapolis.
Believe it or not when Spielberg first heard Williams's composition he didn't like it! Only when Spielberg heard the music played along with the footage did he relent and come to believe that Williams had accomplished something truly wonderful. And that was the start of one of the greatest entertainment industry collaborations in the history of cinema. I think that of all the movies Spielberg has made, only two or three haven't been scored by Williams.
Anonymous: I took it down for the time being. But it can always go back to where it was. The authorities know about Chris Schmidt now and the threats he made. People know where he works and that he's nothing but a glorified librarian hiding behind a keyboard. There are better things to have on my site's front page than an angry lunatic. He seems to have gone into hiding. We probably won't see him again.
(Strings start playing)
ReplyDeleteDuh-DUH. Duh-DUH. Duh-DUH Duh-DUH Duh-DUH Duh-DUH Duh-duh-duh-duh-duh ...
John Williams is a modern genius. With only two notes he wrought primal fear.
I know what I'm watching tonight. Thanks for suggesting it :)

ReplyDeleteWhat ever happened to the post about Christopher Schmidt the Trump-deranged syndrome nutcase at the Akron, Ohio public library?
