Released on this date in 1986.
I played the heck out of The Legend of Zelda when I got my Nintendo Entertainment System for Christmas 1988. It was so much fun exploring around, setting fire to every bush that was within reach. To say nothing of always keeping bombs on hand to blow up possible hidden entrances to shops (or to caves with old men who make you pay for destroying the front door).
Now I have the Zelda theme playing in my head and it won't stop! I don't have anything to play the original game with but I think in honor of the fortieth birthday of the start of the franchise I'll play The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past on my Game Boy Advance.

BUT OUR PRINCESS IS IN ANOTHER CASTLE!
ReplyDeleteOooops sorry, wrong series :D
Ha! It took me four days to get to that dang castle. I thought I'd beaten the game! And then that stupid toadstool guy tells me that she's not there. Then I finally pay attention to the instructions and find that there are eight or nine more worlds to go through. Took me two more months to beat Bowser.
ReplyDeleteI must admit, my experiences with the Zelda franchise are shockingly few. The last time I played a new Zelda game it was the Oracle of Ages/Oracle of Seasons two-parter for the Gameboy Advance and that was in 2003! I've played the original and the sequel The Adventure of Link (a VERY under-rated game in my humble opinion), A Link to the Past (didn't have a Super Nintendo so I had to wait until it game out for GB Advance), Link's Awakening on the original Game Boy... and that's it. A LOT of people have told me that I need to play Majora's Mask. Maybe someday I will, in the next twenty years or so :-P
