The Top Ten Best GHOST PHOTOGRAPHS Ever Taken

The other night I happened to catch Ghost Hunters on the Sci-Fi Channel. It’s an hour-long show that follows the members of TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society) as they investigate reputedly haunted locations, in an attempt to document and de-bunk supposed ghostly infestations. I'd never seen the show before but I came away very impressed by these guys: they're regular working joes – the founders are Roto-Rooter plumbers by day – who do their investigations on nights and weekends in a completely professional and ethical manner. They scrutinize everything and make thorough reports to the proprietors of the sites they look into. If there's nothing that can't be explained, they say so. If there is bizarre stuff going on that doesn't fit on the charts, they report that too, without embellishing it for what it might or might not be.

It made me recollect a night a little over five years ago, when I was part of a ghost hunt. There were about seven or eight of us – two reporters (myself included), a professional photographer, and a selection of other responsible individuals – that a newspaper sent in to spend the night at what is said to be one of the most famously haunted hotels in America. It was meant to be "part Scooby-Doo and part Blair Witch", my editor said. We were supposed to treat it seriously, but also have some fun while we were there: not to take it TOO seriously. 'Cuz then we might fall into the trap of believing things that our subconscious minds wanted us to believe. Our editor worked it out with hotel management for us to have what was supposed to be the most haunted room in the entire place to use as our homebase: we'd meet back every hour and swap notes. In the meantime we were free to go wherever, just so long as we didn't bother the guests. We didn't have anything like electro-magnetic field detectors or night-view videocameras, but we did have several photographic cameras (including one loaded with infrared film) and my audio tape recorder that I used to speak notes into and record whatever else.

Long story short: we came away from that night with more than we expected. A lot more. There's a photograph taken that night that I wish I could post here, but the copyright belongs to someone else, so it wouldn't be right for me to do that. I made myself look at it again after watching Ghost Hunters, even though five years later it still gives me the freezing willies. We took several pics with the infrared film: in four of the photos (including two from the "haunted" room) there are unexplained signatures that show up. It's the one in the hallway that's really disturbing: it was the day after we got the photos back that we realized there was a woman's face hanging neck-high in mid-air down the hallway. There was nothing there when we took the photo, and don't ask me why we chose to take a picture at that exact moment: the whole story is coming someday from another venue, and I don't want to steal their thunder by talking about it here. There was also the matter of my tape recorder: it picked up some very spooky sounds – a voice whispering – while we were in another building on-site. There were two people in that room at the time, and this wasn't a voice from either of us.

Do I believe in ghosts? Well, given the evidence we collected firsthand that night, I now admit to believing that there's something we can’t explain in terms of the normal world that’s at work here. My own personal theory? If there are such things as ghosts, I don't believe they're "spiritual" in nature at all. My thinking is that they are some kind of "recording" left in a place that sometimes replays itself: a recording in time and space. It might have something to do with quantum physics. Or this might all be a little too wacky anyway. But you tell me: would you say you don't believe in spooks if your tape recorder picked up a weird voice saying "Let me out..."?

Anyway, at the time I wound up doing a lot of research into real-life hauntings, including the many apparent photographs of ghosts taken over the years. Some I'd seen before and others were brand-new to me. It's been something I've made an occasional study on in the years since. A number of them "stuck with me". Since we're now getting into the Halloween season, I thought it might be fun (and maybe even horizon-broadening) if I shared here what I thought were the top ten ghostly photographs taken to date.

So far as I can tell, these are the real deal. Meaning that they've been sifted through with a fine-tooth comb by people who know photography and have withstood all scrutiny. These are the pictures that simply can't be explained, or at least haven't yet according to anything we can explain currently. That doesn't leave very many photos for serious consideration: there are tons of professed ghost photos. Most of them are explained away with extreme ease: Too many "ghosts" are simply camera straps that got in the way of the lens. Ghostly "orbs" are probably nothing more than light scintillating off of dust particles. Some ghostly images are mere double exposures (an example of which is glimpsed in the movie The Godfather). Occam's Razor applies bigtime here: the simplest explanation tends to be the correct one. Tends to be, that is...

So with all that in mind, for your viewing pleasure (and excluding the one photo that I've already said I can't show here, even though it's really unsettling to look at) and just in time for Halloween, here are what I consider to be:

10. "The Brown Lady" of Raynham Hall

This photo was taken in 1936 at Raynham Hall in Norfolk, England, by two photographers of Country Life magazine. Raynham Hall was long reputed to be haunted by the ghost of Lady Dorothy Townshend, who died in 1726. The ghost had been seen on many occasions throughout the years when it was spotted descending these stairs by the Country Life photographers, who quickly took a snapshot. This is considered by many to be the most highly regarded and reputable photograph by a ghost yet made.

9. The Hampton Court Ghost

This one became fairly well known after it was released in December of 2003. Hampton Court, near London, was one of Henry VIII's favorite hangouts (it's because of him that Anne Boleyn is now a headless ghost roaming the Tower of London). A fire door inside the castle kept being opened when no one was supposed to be around. Guards checked the security cameras' videotape... and spotted this figure in period costume walking through the door. Castle personnel swear they don't know who did this, noting that they don't even have a costume that looks like this. 'Course this could be some prankster at work, but I felt this was yet worthy of including in my top ten list... until we ever find out otherwise. It might turn out to have just been some tourist in an overcoat. Anyway if you want to watch the actual footage of the specter opening the door L.E.M.U.R. Investigations has it on their website.

8. The Newby Church Monk

Reverend K.F. Lord took a picture of the altar at his church in North Yorkshire, England (why are the GOOD ghosts always found in England?) and this is what came out. The picture and the negative are said to have been thoroughly examined by photographic experts and they can't find any evidence that this was either a double exposure, or artificially altered. The "thing" is calculated to be standing nine feet tall, and no one's found any record of a monk that humongous ever being at Newby Church. Who is it? What is it? Trick of light or something else? Either way it's way too creepy to not mention on this list.

7. The Bed-Ridden Boy

I found this one at the L.E.M.U.R. website also. The photo was taken in 1999 at the Historic Worley B&B Inn in Dahlonega, Georgia (YES finally ghosts in our neck of the woods!). It wasn't until four years later that this photo – which seems to show a figure resting on a bed – was really given notice. It's thought that this might be the ghost of a young man who died in the house in the 1800s after being struck by a train, and if you go to L.E.M.U.R.'s page you can find a picture of the lad (when he was still alive) to compare this photo with.
6. Freddy Jackson's Comeback

Freddy Jackson was a mechanic in the Royal Air Force in World War I. Freddy Jackson's squadron served onboard the H.M.S. Daedalus. Freddy Jackson was killed in 1919 when an airplane propeller hit him. Two days later when the squadron assembled for a group photo, Freddy Jackson faithfully showed up, grinning behind the ear of a fellow comrade. Guess nobody bothered to tell Freddy Jackson that he was dead. His face was widely recognized in this photo by members of the squadron.

5. His Favorite Chair

Remember how Archie Bunker liked his recliner so much that he never let anyone else sit in it? Well, ol' Archie doesn't have anything on Lord Combermere. After being ran over by a horse-drawn carriage he died in 1891. A photographer set up a camera with its shutter open for one hour in the manor's library while the entire staff was off at Lord Combermere's funeral, some four miles away. When the plate was developed, the startling image of what looks to be a man's head and arm sitting in the chair was immediately noticed. Many of the staff said that the image looked very much like the late lord, and it happened to be sitting in Combermere's favorite chair in the library.
4. Darn Backseat Drivers!

In 1959 Mable Chinnery went to the cemetery to visit the grave of her mother, as any devoted daughter is apt to do. She took some photos of the gravesite and then turned and took this picture of her husband sitting alone in the car's passenger seat. The film was developed and this came out: somebody sitting in the backseat wearing glasses, clear as day. Mrs. Chinnery swore that the "backseat driver" was none other than her own mother... whose gravesite she was standing next to when she took the picture! Hmmmm... a live husband and a deceased mother-in-law looking over his shoulder: there's a joke here, I just know it.

3. What Do You Want On Your Tombstone?

Ike Clanton is from the same family that produced the Clanton gang of O.K. Corral fame. He’s obviously proud of his heritage, and he shows it on his website TombstoneArizona.com. Back in 1996 Ike Clanton took this photo of a friend wearing western duds, in the middle of Tombstone's Boothill Graveyard. They swear that nobody else was in sight when they made this picture. Furthermore, some time later they tried to restage this picture with someone standing at the spot where the "mystery man" appears in the background. Ike Clanton says that it was impossible to take such a picture and not show the rear person's legs. Clanton said he wasn't so sure about Tombstone being haunted, but this photo made a believer out of him. There's so much ghostly activity going on in the famous town that Clanton's set up a special section of his website dedicated to Tombstone's population of yesteryear. Well worth checking out, if nothing else than for the sense of history that this excellent website conveys.

2. "And the sea gave up the dead which were in it..."

I first saw this photo over twenty years ago. It was the first "ghost photo" I ever came across and it still wigs me out to look at it. In 1924 James Courtney and Michael Meehan, two crewmen of the tanker S.S. Watertown, were accidentally killed by gas fumes while cleaning a cargo tank. The crew of the Watertown - on its way to the Panama Canal from New York City – buried the two sailors at sea off the Mexican coast. That was on December 4th. On December 5th the first mate reported that the faces of Courtney and Meehan were appearing in the water off the port side of the ship. Over the next several days every member of the crew witnessed the faces appear and disappear, including the ship's captain. When he reported this to his supervisors after docking in New Orleans it was suggested that he try to photograph the faces. Captain Keith Tracy bought a camera and the ship was soon underway again. Sure enough, the faces appeared, and Tracy took six pictures, then secured the camera in the ship's vault. The camera was not removed until it was taken to a commercial developer after docking in New York City. Five of the photos showed nothing unusual, but the sixth clearly showed what was said to be the faces of the two dead crewmen. No evidence of forgery or tampering of the film was ever discovered. The faces stopped appearing after a new crew was brought aboard the Watertown.
1. Come On Baby, Light My Fire

Of all the ghost photos I've seen (well, except for that one that I can't show at the present time), this one is hands-down the most eerie. Probably the most disturbing too. I didn't know about this one until a few months ago. Almost ten years ago, on November 19th, 1995, Wem Town Hall in Shropshire, England was engulfed in flames and burned to the ground. As firefighters tried to stave off the inferno a town resident, Tony O'Rahilly, took pictures from across the street using a telephoto lens on his camera. There, rather clearly in one of the photos, is what looks very much to be a small girl standing in a doorway, with the brightness of the flames behind her. No one ever remembered there being a small girl present on scene, much less in that close a proximity to the fire. The photo and the original negative were turned over to a photo expert who decided that the picture was 100% authentic: "The negative is a straightforward piece of black-and-white work and shows no sign of having been tampered with." Okay, so what's a girl ghost doing in such a big fire? Well in 1677 a fire destroyed many of Wem’s wooden houses. The fire was said to have been caused by a 14-year old girl named Jane Churm, who had been careless with a candle. Churm died in the fire along with several others, and her ghost is said to still haunt the area. Whether there's such a thing as ghosts or not, it must be said: if this is just a trick, an illusion of smoke and fire that happened to be captured on film, it's a zillion-to-one coincidence that it just so happened to appear in the form of a girl who also died in a terrible fire at the same location. But hey, stranger things than that have happened in this world, right?
And there you have it, my personal list of the best ghost photographs (or not) taken so far. But before I close out this article, I want to make mention of just one more photograph: one that I found while doing some research ("The Best Ghost Photographs Ever Taken" at About.com’s Paranormal Phenomenon site was a HUGE help, as was the website for L.E.M.U.R. Paranormal Investigations). This photo is, ahhh geez what else can I say about this: if this is the real deal, then there's something cosmically sweet about this picture. Some people say that love is forever... well, this might be the first time ever that we've got documented proof of that. I’ll let Denise Russell take it from here, courtesy of About.com’s Paranormal Phenomena:
"The lady in the color photo is my granny," she says. "She lived on her own until age 94, when her mind started to weaken and had to be moved to an assisted living home for her own safety. At the end of the first week, there was a picnic for the residents and their families. My mother and sister attended. My sister took two pictures that day, and this is one of them. It was taken on Sunday, 8/17/97, and we think the man behind her is my grandpa who passed away on Sunday, 8/14/84. We did not notice the man in the picture until Christmas Day, 2000 (granny had since passed away), while browsing through some loose family photos at my parents' house. My sister thought it was such a nice picture of granny that she even made a copy for mom, but still, nobody noticed the man behind her for over three years! When I arrived at my parents' house that Christmas day, my sister handed me the picture and said, "Who do you think this man behind granny looks like?" It took a few seconds for it to sink in. I was absolutely speechless. The black and white photos show that it really looks like him."
I don't need what might be a ghost's photograph to attest to this truth: when you're in love with that one special someone, nothing will stop you from being with that person. But it's still pretty nice to get a tangible confirmation of that every once in awhile...

Unbelievable that in modern times people are still using black and white film cameras to take these pictures.

Could it be that they are easier to doctor and the more prone to optical trickery.

Btw, I look at the video of the ghost supposedly walking though the door. In the video, the door opens first then the "ghost" is trying to close the door. Never hear of a ghost who's afraid of a draft.

Some of the earlier era pictures are interesting, but they were taken so long ago with long exposures at a time when people didn't really understand photography, so double exposures cannot be ruled out.

Interesting article for Holloween though. Thanks!

I thought this was an interesting article as well. Unlike most people, I do believe in the paranormal. The granma pic does look like there is another man in the background with the trees. As of the ghost in the doorway, that looks totally fake. Almost the rest of the pics looked real. I guess you just have to have that imagination of ghost to believe this kind of stuff. But like I said, this was a very good, bujt kreepy, article.

In Luke 24:39 Jesus said
Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have."

If there were no such things as ghosts, he would have said so.

Also in the Old Testament, the ghost of Samuel the prophet appeared to Saul to tell him he and his son Jonathan would soon join him in death.

I don't know whether the photos are real or fake but if Jesus and the Bible says there are ghosts then I believe it.

This sort of thing is dangerous, as you might already know. Showing such devotion to us is flattering but it may also invite some of our most unsavory friends to visit.

Hey I'm the co-founder of a scientifically based paranormal investigations group in Michigan. For the skeptics, really you don't NEED physical proof to believe in anything. Look at the Major Western based religions. There is no PROOF of God, or that Mary was a virgin when she got pregnant or that Jesus was the "Son of God" yet many people, maybe even you, believe in that. If you want non-biased paranormal theory to read, meaning non-skeptic and also non-believer, go to my groups myspace site and read the blogs. www.myspace.com/michiganghosts

Anonymous said...

skeptics really do make me laugh, the narrow-mindedness of it all... i understand that opinions and beliefs vary, but having experienced many sightings, feelings and sessions with mediums, i can honestly say that spirits do exist.
but, at the end of the day, as many people have said before (some on here), it all boils down to faith. can't MAKE people believe...

Anonymous said...

We don't believe in ghosts for lack of evidence and yet we drag our butts to church every Sunday.

Anonymous said...

I am sorry but none of this information is believable to any person of common sense.

Quoting the first post next to the hooded figure there seems to me like there is a figure with a bandaged head.

Perhaps ghosts are "after effects" of people's emotions, rather than their actual souls? Think of all the energy human beings expend. All that emotion. It probably all collects and sticks around after we go. That would explain why ghosts don't communicate with us coherently. They aren't real people, just echoes.

This is a brilliant website! It fulfills the needs and thoughts of those who believe and disbelieve.

Remember that a blind person sees what they choose to see.

Let the debate and argument rage on as it has for centuries. For the non-believers, may you never experience a ghost first hand. It becomes an unshakable image in your mind to the point that it literally haunts.

Anonymous said...

You non-belivers are all nut's, I'm sure most of you belive in God, how many time's have you seen him or got a photo????

Anonymous said...

It makes me giggle that the "non-believers" are even looking at this site. And why so angry? Does it really bother you THAT much? Perhaps you should seek anger-management counseling.

I'm not necessarily a believer, but I don't rule out the possibility of ghosts. I find this facinating and like seeing the pictures. I won't fully believe until I experience something personally.

There will never be enough proof to turn the hardcore non-believers around. No matter what you do, they will always have something to explain it away. Maybe something will happen to them someday to make them think twice.

in my opinion, when a human has an infatuation with somthing, after it passes that infatuarion stays becouse there unforfilled desire hasent been forfilled, thats why ghost wear there cloths still is becouse they are more memories that have burned themself within this area of space, an anomally, just somthing, mistical.Hell, ghost's are just as real as everything els, if they wernt, they would never have been thought up.

One & six creeped me out.
That kid looked...evil.

However, I don't know much about photography, so I can't judge whether these could or couldn't be ghosts. I'd say accidental fakes. Some looked a little too...solid. As if only the blurring made them 'ghosts'. & sometimes you get a mirror image if you shake the camera, or are clumsy with development...
Also, it could be easy, engrossed in what you were doing, miss someone in the background.

But then again, you can never be sure.

Anyway, this was really cool. I'd actually heard of ten, & nine was cool. That guy behind your grandmother was creepy...& it did look like your grandfather.
Thanks for pic + info!

Also, with 6 (the guy in the chair) the man that owned the house set up his camera to do a time elapse photo over about an hour, and when they developed the picture this came out. They figured the butler or someone came in and sat down, but they questioned all of the servants and they all swore that no one had been in that room the entire day. I guess you can never tell...

On the picture showing 'Freddy Jackson Comeback' the part of the picture that has been circled if you look at it for a little while you can see half a mans face with a moustache on the left side just inside the circle mark,it is a strong image of a face once you have seen it, he also appears on the right side inside the circle twice, but the image's are smaller one at the top of the circle and one just below it.The same face appears three times inside the circle which is marked and it does not look like Freddy Jackson, who appears so stongly in the picture, just behind the uniformed man.Maybe there was more than one visitor that day who wanted there photograph taken.

Ok with regard to the story about #6, I am already suspicious when you tell me the guy decided to take a timelapse photo for the duration of an HOUR of a CHAIR! Come on! FOUL PLAY CRY I!

Were those things you said considered nice and intelligent?

I really dug the story about the SS watertown. My cousin is in the navy and he has told me some pretty nutty storys about it. I'm going to see if he knows anything about the watertown.

Anonymous said...

The problem Mitch...
You say "..Show me the evidence of them not being real?"
It doesn't work that way.
The burden of proof lies with the initial claim (the photo). It is not the job of the skeptic to prove other wise.
I could claim that I saw the "Great Pumpkin" playing blackjack with Bigfoot, Santa, the Easter Bunny and the Toothfairy. The Toothfairy was caught cheating and the Easter Bunny shot her, and then the rest because they witnessed it. You would obviously think this was a lie and ask me for proof. Should I be able to say to you... prove that it didn't happen?
These pictures are great. Not all skeptics are party poopers, looking to just try to make everybody look wrong. I am a skeptic and I've been facinated wih these types photos all my life. I still have a burnt in image of the "Brown Lady" photo I saw as a little kid that freaked me out for years. I've been to tons of "haunted" houses (lived in two), been in the room while people were claiming to witness things that were right in front of me (yet,I still didn't see anything... and I don't buy the "only some people are attuned to see" excuses). Saw a ghost one time, was the most realistic and vivid thing.. I felt my whole belief structure change instantly.... then I woke up. (dreams are a powerful thing, if I would have had that dream take place in the room where I was, I might still believe it. Luckily it was in a place I hadn't been to in a year, so it was very obviously a dream.)
I would write those pictures off to Misinterpretation or hoax. Do I have an explanation for them all? No. But do I think the explanation lies in the supernatural realm? No.

Anonymous said...

I think all ove those Photos are really freakky, but can u post the one you cant show?at least tall us what it is!!! I have a hunch though...

Anonymous said...

I can't believe people are claiming some of these photographs are photoshopped when they appear in books published in the 1970's :)

10,8,6,5,4 and 2 all certainly predate photoshop because I remember them from the first book of ghost photo's I borrowed from school in the 80's

Anonymous said...

I don't think many mentioned photoshop. But there are quite a few other ways to fake film.
A fake subject, meddling with the film...
I don't know the exact details, but people were meddling with photographs (and not just for hoaxs; I've seen some amazing art photos) long before computers.
This said; please not one blow up in my face with that "OMG SKEPTIC H8OR DUMASS GO AWAY!!!1!11!!!" stuff.
I never said these photos were fake. Just that photoshop isn't the only way to make a fake.

Anonymous said...

Most of those could easily be explained through shitty photography. Low shutter speed/cross development = blurry 'ghost' figures. Most of the photos are too blurry to make out any definite figures. Also, why are the photos that were claimed to have been taken in the 1990's in poor quality black and white film?

"A photographer set up a camera with its shutter open for one hour"

If he did that, the photo would have appeared entirely white from over exposure.

in the grandmother picture, i'n my opinion, the person behind her in the last pic resembles the man standing beside her in the fist one...if it was photoshopped, good job! if not, then your grandparents must have been deeply inlove with one another to have him watching over her!

Anonymous said...

All i can really say is that the pic is an interesting one. The man behind your grandmother does resemble your grandfather once you've lookes at the old pics. However you can't deny that the hooded figure isn't there because it's obviously not a shadow from the trees. It's something alrite!

Although I'm a young person I do think they are real. Not a trick of the eye. I read lots of the explinations of ghost pictures, but I still beleive in them. My friend has WITNESSED seeing a ghost, and I beleive her. So I beleive in ghosts. Although you might think I'm crazy I'm not, becuase I'm definate there are other beleivers.

There are tons of pictures I seen that are definatley fake, and I can tell without an explination from someone else. But then there are the kind of pictures that look real, that freak me out. Alot.

Because of those realistic (in my eyes) pictures I do beleive in Ghosts, or whatever you'll call them. So that's all I've got to say about this. Oh and please, tell me you're kidding about the last one; the old woman with the ghost supposedly standing behind her. If it were really a ghost; it'd be in black & white, I'd figure...I never seen a ghost in color before...That I recall, anyways.

Does anyone notice that the figure in the monk picture and the one in the picture with the grandma (above the van) is erily similar? The only thing I can come up with is that it maybe a reaper of death. As for the grandpa in the backround of the grandma pic, I can't help but say he looks a little bit like Abe Lincoln =)

Yeah, that happens to me sometimes too. Usually, the culprit is my girlfriend's cat.

You know, I don't know about all the photos that I've seen, are they real? Who knows? But for those of you who only believe in what your eyes show you, how sad? Faith is the belief in things not seen. BELIEVE me when I tell you that there is SOOO much more to our existence on this earth than what we see. Ghosts, for example, do not exist in the physical realm, therefore, to catch one is almost impossible. If, for whatever reason, we are fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of something "unexplainable", could we for only a moment, possibly consider there is a slight but very real chance that we've witnessed something beyond our comprehension and understanding? As far as #8 is concerned, im at the tender age of 20, born in '87, i remember being shown that picture in a library book when i was 5, which wouldve been 92. So NO photoshop was not used, and believe it or not there was life before nearly household had a PC! perhaps some other sort of visual trickery or theatrics, but it really gets my goat when ppl turn round and are like AH PHOTOSHOP! Do your god damn research, real or not, it was photographed in the 60's!

i dont thik these pics are real there is tons of pics out there, but u have no proof where did u get thr pics from, u probley dont even know so how could u say they are real.

There are so many ways to make a picture look like a ghost there could be dust on the film, or it could have been done with a computer, i mean there is so much that could make it look that way. some of this stuff is soo fack. You have no way of knowing what is real and what is not.

Those are some awesome pics. I do believe in spirits or ghosts or whatever you want to call them. I believe we do wander when we leave this world. In fact a man has been following me for the past 9 yrs and I don't know who it is. Maybe some one could help me with that. He is translucent and looks the same everytime. I just wish I knew who it was. I would like someone serious to talk to me about this. I would leave my e-mail but rather not. Keep showing the pics, let others know this is real.

I heard of a great bumpersticker that comes to mind here.

"Do Not Hold Strong Opinions On Matters Of Which You Know Little About"

Another note: Science is constantly evolving and becoming more advanced. Remember, the world IS round, and babies aren't born through a woman's navel.

the funny thing is a few here have said all this is bs what not nothing is real, but yet time has been spent browsing and then taking time to comment on it..
if it was not somthing that interested you to spend time looking at or somthing you do not belive what exactly is the point of even being here?

i find it facinating and am greatfull people take the time to search for pictures and provide them for us to see

Wow, these ghost pictures are great. And I would definitely imagine them to be real, since a some of these pictures are older, they weren't "messed around with". By that I mean, computer or camera tools. My favorite one would have to be the Hampton Court one. I also like Freddy Jackson and the one with the Monk. There are more all you have to do is type famous ghost pictures on google, and you can see some others. The only one I do not remember seeing was The Bed Ridden Boy! Never heard of it! But, this is a neat website and I believe the pics are real, thanks!

Wow, again, LOL! One thing I did not notice was that there is another ghostly figure in the picture with the elderly woman with the ghost standing behind her. I was viewing a comment of another person and it's true. I also seem to see a skull beside that figure. The figure can be located in the trees. Neat!

I really truly believe in ghosts.
I have always wanted to see one, but never have.
I moved a few weeks ago and i actually think we have a ghost in our house.
I think i have seen her she has Black hair, and we live on a battlefield which makes it weird.
I love ghosts and orbs. I mean they're just people like you and me.

Interesting website, just like to say that the granny picture is incredibly easy to photoshop, but I'm not going to pass judgement on whether or not it is authentic. Just thought I'd mention an interesting event that happened to my dad's digital camera. It's not a ghost picture, but a slightly unusual camera failure. One day, my dad took a picture of a very impressive looking tombstone. After the tombstone picture, he took a few more pictures of roadsigns and then went home. When he tried to load the pictures onto the computer, the camera failed to work properly and would not display any photos, either on the computer or on the camera. After the tombstone photo was deleted from the camera, everything went back to normal. I've always wondered if this was just a random equipment failure, or if someone doesn't want their final resting place being photographed?

When a day comes along that is soooo beautiful that I wrap myself in it and enjoy the blessing of it, it is from my perception of what beautiful is and how I respond to it. We each have different perceptions of what is going on around us and what is happening to us. I think it is a beautiful day and you might think it sucks.
Your sight, hearing, touch, and the supposed sixth sense are all going to be different from person to person, too. I have to wear glasses to drive, I cannot tell the difference between silk and satin sometimes, etc. A friend of mine can tell if there is change under her thick carpet when she stands on it. ?!.
Not everyone is tuned to the frequencies required to pick-up the paranormal or supernatural. Then some people are so in tune they need therapy. It was explained to me like this, "Let's say there are three guys going hiking and they each one brought a radio with them. One guy can pick-up a baseball game from across the country, another guy barely can hear his favorite DJ, and the other is still trying to find anything on his radio. Different radios, different receptions."
That made sense to me. Finally. BECAUSE something happened to me that still has me irritated.
I sleep with the light on. Any bright light as my husband of twenty years got fed-up early in our marriage with my waking him up with my screeming from seeing things. It would just happen ever so often, but it still annoyed the crap out of him.
At the time this recent incident happened, the light in the hallway outside my bedroom was on. Bright light. It streamed into my bedroom, lighting up the bedroom door that was opened against the wall. I sleep right next to the door, facing it. The headboard of the bed is right up to the wall next to the door. My husband is right behind me - RIGHT BEHIND ME - sleeping. Got the picture?
Not long after falling asleep, there was someone casting a shadow on me, I figure a kid wants something, so I wake back up to see what they want. Floating in the hallway doorframe was a black, sheerly draped bubble the size of a large dinnerplate. It cast a shadow onto the door itself. It gently floated midway between the floor and dooortop. It looked like a clear black balloon with a sheer scarf draped over it with the ends of the scarf unevenly trailing underneath.
SSScccrrreeeeeeeeeeeming and yelling, I was so scared! It was right there, floating slowly into the bedroom, when I reached right around and grabbed my husband who was just sitting up.
"You see it!!!!!! Right there, right there!" I pulled his face closer to it and pointed.
My husband looked at the door and saw nothing. The object floated calmly by like it was looking at us. I got so mad, I was beyond pissed. I made sure he was looking at it, it was right in front of us now and then slowly went on till it went through the wall at the other end of the bedroom.
The one time in my life when something supernatural happens and there is someone right there with me and we are both absolutely awake facing the same way, and HE DOESN'T SEE ANYTHING!
He really wanted to see it, too.
If you never experience the supernatural, consider youself lucky. There's so much more to being alive and in this world.

I once woke up and Mario (from the Maro Brothers computer game) was sat on my computer desk. He got up and floated into the middle of the room while disappearing. This is said to be an anomaly of waking up whereby your brain is still kinda dreaming. It used to happen allot but its kinda subsided now. This is what I think can allot of the old "waking-up-and-seeing-a-ghost" phenomena.

Some of the posts on here are mental. Demons running around peoples houses? The angel of death in a nursing home??!! Its a shadow in a tree!

I believe in ghosts AND I am a Christian but some people allow themselves to get WAY TOO CARRIED AWAY!

my house is haunted. I know because I woke up one night and looked up and this dark figure was standing above me. though not transparent, it did have a bright light outlining its figure. I couldnt move or anything because I was in paralyzed fear. I was probably about 10 at the time. A few years down the road, my dog ran after the figure down the hallway. It usually walked out of the first bedroom on the right and into the living room. my mom use to think she was seeing things. A few years after that, I was heading to the restroom, and before I could react, a figure appeared in front of me and I ran through it, and for an instant, the entire house was lit up in a bright white light. I hated it for a while because I could feel its presence and I'd become nauseated and start to have a pounding headache. I'm getting chills as I write this. The second scariest one (after the figure over my bed incident) was when I looked at the hallway and the figure was leaning against the hallway. It was a male about 5'10

FOR ANYONE WHO STATES THAT THE WOKE UP AND COULD NOT MOVE - AND A FIGURE/GHOST WAS IN THE ROOM.

THIS IS A PRIMARY SYMPTOM OF SLEEP PARALYSIS.
- a partial or complete skeletal muscle paralysis during the hypnopompic or hypnagogic states. In other words, it is the sense of being aware that one is unable to move or speak while falling asleep or waking up. Sleep paralysis may also be accompanied by hypnagogic hallucinations.[1] These hallucinations can be auditory, tactile, and/or visual. If a polysomnograph is taken, at least one of the following will be shown: skeletal muscle tone suppression, REM sleep at sleep onset, or dissociated REM sleep. The sleep paralysis persists anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes [1] before the person is able to either return to REM sleep or to become fully awake.

Possible causes
Sleep paralysis occurs during REM sleep in order to prevent the body from manifesting movements made in the subject's dreams. Little is known about the physiology of sleep paralysis. However, some have suggested that it may be linked to post-synaptic inhibition of motor neurons in the pons region of the brain. In particular, low levels of melatonin may stop the depolarization current in the nerves, which prevents the stimulation of the muscles, to prevent the body from enacting the dreamt activity (e.g. preventing a sleeper from running when dreaming about running).

Many people who commonly enter sleep paralysis also suffer from narcolepsy. However, various studies suggest that many or most people will experience sleep paralysis at least once or twice in their lives.

Some reports read that various factors increase the likelihood of both paralysis and hallucinations. These include: [2]

Sleeping in a supine position (facing upwards)
Irregular sleeping schedules; naps, sleeping in, sleep deprivation
Increased stress
Sudden environmental/lifestyle changes
A lucid dream that immediately precedes the episode. Also conscious induction of sleep paralysis is a common technique to enter a state of lucid dreams, also known as WILD[1] .
Artificial sleeping aids, ADD medications and/or antihistamines.

ITS NOT THE DEVIL OR A GHOST OR THE ANGEL OF DEATH! ITS A SYMPTOM OF LIFE...

I don't know why the scientific community has such a problem with the ghost enigma, after all as far as quantum mechanics are concerned there's absolutely no reason why a projection from an earlier point in spacetime can't manifest or be viewed in our current time frame (i.e. a ghost is not a corporeal figure but rather a projection or recording)

The vast majority of ghost photos (especially the orb types) are either foolish fakes, irrationally-conceived wishful thinking (that'll be the orbs) or misidentification of the human face in simulcra whereby we see the three facial recognition points (a pair of eyes and a mouth) and build an image based on those human characteristics. Check out the smiley here : ) for an example!

There are however those that mistify me - some that cannot be explained, so easily.
As for these photos, Number 8 is not a photoshop from a web site - I've got a book from the late 80s with that photo in it! That one in the fire is fairly convincing - but why in 1995 was someone using a black & white film? If that was in colour then it might look a lot different... And as for the Hampton Court Palace ghost, he/she appears to be wearing white trainers (sneakers to all you Americans) and can't seem to work a double fire door properly - a fake if you ask me!

Anonymous said...

Two points: #8 creeped me out when I was a teenager in the 1970s. IIRC, the book was called "Mysterious Britain". I think the Brown Lady might also have been in that book, but it didn't disturb me nearly as much!

#5 was taken in 1891, not 1991! In those days, you HAD to use a long exposure to get a decent image (especially dark Victorian interiors). This is why you rarely see people smiling in contemporary photographic portraits. Hard to hold a smile for that long. Some portrait photographers actually had special braces to help their sitters keep their pose for the length of time required. Also, it was a common practice to take photographs of rooms in grand houses. Still is.

I suppose we all need to agree that we will always disagree. That's why we have presidential debates I suppose. Debates are great guys and we all have the freedom to believe what we would like to believe in. No two people are alike, not even twins. However, unless you know someone on an extreme personal level, you are in the wrong for calling them a lier. I personally have a great interest in ghosts, etc. I have had experiences since I was little. Like 5 years old. My last experience was no more than a year ago and so far it was the most scariest for me and since then, I find it hard to go to sleep at night. I'm 33 y/o and scared of the dark now. I have dreams that come to pass, etc. So I suppose everyone is keyed into what is supposed to be their 6th sense. For all of us that do believe. Keep on believing, that way our kids are more apt to believe and maybe they will be able to see us or sense us when we come back.

If you don't believe in ghosts and hauntings, WHY are you here on this board?

Anonymous said...

For all you nonbelievers, WHY ARE YOU HERE?! I have read most of the messages posted and I agree that there ARE spirits here on earth. Main reason I believe is because my neighborhood is built on an old farm 'plantation', and this old woman dressed in an 1870's type cloak walked down the hallway of the house. Another reason is that my dad passed away and I have seen him. Believe what you want!!!

Anonymous said...

I just posted that a ghost walked down my hallway and I left out some important things about this phenomenon. Not only is she a VISIBLE ghost but also a TALKATIVE kind of ghost. I hear stuff all the time when i'm home alone like cabinets opening, knocks on the door(at anywhere from 12AM-4AM), but the creepiest of all is the NAME CALLING!!! She knows my name, my mom's name, and my brother's name and we have ALL seen her at one time or another(even friends and visitors).

There isn't tonnes of evidence on the net, as so many people here have said. There's tonnes of silly orbs photos and cig smoke in pics, good and bad photoshops and people seeing what they want to see. I've never seen one real ghost picture. Ever.

Yet, I have on atleast twelve occasions seen a ghost myself, clear as day and every single time it was terrifying.

I do look on the net, hoping to stumble across some photos worth the time, and I love to hear tales of hauntings and so forth. But so far, including the top ten up there, every single pic I've ever seen of a supposed ghost - isn't one. Shame.

I believe in the spirit world. The Bible is clear about that. Whether or not I have seen ghosts or spirits or whether it was just some sleep paralysis I am not sure. Once I heard the front door rattle, which stirred me while I slept, then I heard two voices indicating to each other that they had seen the bible verses I had on my wall and fridge. I woke and listened. The next thing I remember is that I sat up in my bed and saw clear as anything, two beings at the other end of my small bedroom. They were just 'standing' there looking at me. I was soo scared that my lip trembled. After a while they disappeared. Then I went back to sleep, and remembered that months earlier I had ordered some porn mags, and that they must be arriving soon. They turned up the following day. (I know, porn and Bible don't mix, I was pretty messed up back then.) The year before when I had ordered porn, I believe that a spirit followed somebody home to where I was living, and tried to posess me, but could not. Years earlier I mucked around with congering up the devil. I really believe that I saw him. Black as black. The form of a person but void of any light, like thick darkness. You laugh, but I am not joking.

Anonymous said...

Spirits can talk audibly. Once I felt an impression on my bed like somebody sitting next to me, and say 'hi petey' in a female voice, then leant over me. I felt the weight on me but there was nothing there. Explain that with 'Sleep Paralysis'.

Anonymous said...

for the skeptics who say the pictures looked doctored well some may be, but if nobody has seen a actual ghost how do you know what one looks like?
Anyone who believes in GOD and doesnt believe in spirits is crazy.

I've written about the 'ghost' of Wem Town Hall. Look at it a bit more closely and the 'ghost' disappears. See:
http://www.wisewords.demon.co.uk/shropshire/ghost.html

Amusing how the story of Jane and the fire has been embroidered since the photo started appearing on the Web (for example, that she haunted the Town Hall - not much reason to do so as it was built more than 2 centuries after her time).

i dont know about any of the pictures shown here but recently while visiting my brothers house i saw pictures that were taken by his wife that were taken in an old barn of a young girl with a dark dress on and no legs to be seen and she was very transparent. you could see everything through her. the straw in the barn and the braces that held up the roof. she was also seen next to the old silo no more than 50 feet from the barn. we have photos to prove it. until i saw these i was not a believer but now i am. these could not be doctored in any way. i dont know how to explain it but we will be posting them online soon.

DEAR SKEPTICS:

I have read alot of comments in relation to the invention of photography and beyond, as the only form of proof that ghosts did not exists in the form that 1. Many photographers in the past hundred years developed fakes 2. Many photographers never took a photo

I'm a history student, specically in Classics in Roman and Greek studies.

I think people are forgetting that accounts about ghosts occured for THOUSANDS of YEARS.

Many Romans and Greeks, especially, wrote their own accounts about ghosts. From people, to ghost animals and ghosts ships.

Yes, they were supersitious people. But at the same time, there was vision on vision, face to face accounts of people who believed they had seen spirits.

Same with the Celtic civilation, the Norseman, Vikings, Africans, The Japanese, The Chinese, The Israelites,The Egyptians,The Babylonians...

SO many cultures wrote accounts, or even oral accounts then written down,of sworn existance of seeing ghosts.

This passion for the paranormal has been around for a long time. So please folks, don't limit yourself to just the Victorian Aged and beyond. When there weren't photo's, there were drawings, paintings, written stories, oral stories.

Just because you have never photographed something ghost related, doesn't mean it's not true. I myself, is also a photographer. But due to personal family paranormal situations, I can't be a skeptic.

Many psychologists and scientists can't explain alot of other things either - So why does this have to be an exemption?

Seeing things is one thing, including in photos taking pictures. sure, maybe that might of been a figure of imagination - who knows? It depends on the person.

BUT there have been alot of physical evidence as well. People who have actually been somehow touched physically by an unknown presence, or even seriously injured. Same with senses, such as the smell of stench that moves. Don't forget the feel of breathing as well.

There is more to ghosts then just LOOKING at them, but also the physical attributes them. Other senses count too.

Photos are just one form of evidence.

Anyway, my point was...I'm studying all the historical stuff. Just broaden your history people!

Not that I believe in Ghosts and apparitions, but I do believe that all sorts of reports about ghosts have some basis in truth... I mean, no one in history woke up one fine day and decided, ' hey Life's too boring, let's create something called ghosts so that we can scare the life out of people for centuries to come...'
I'm sure that didn't happen...So even if true ghosts don't exist, maybe there is something supernatural out there..... Although I doubt anyone will ever find out

Well, in my opinion, all you need to believe in ghosts is to take a pic of one yourself. This happened to me last sunday while at church. My wife took some randoms pics and there are some freaky things showing. I've sent the pics for analysis but the feeling is jut scary. To be able to see something in the pic that was not there when you took it.

In the photo with the Grandmother what made me think it was authentic was the fact that the spirit behind the Grandmother is wearing the same style of shirt her late husband was wearing in the picture of him that was also posted. That and the head/face look identical. The only one that seemed fake to me was the monk photo. It looks photoshopped. But the Brown Lady and the Wem Town Hall ghost are the most convincing to me.

this is one amazing pi because i can understan that you were alone and your husband died so for me i would have fainted looking at a pic with my loved one behind me like that

"For those who believe, no proof in needed, and for those who disbelieve, no proof is enough"

I find the concept of ghosts very interesting and i'm into anything paranormal. However, i neither believe nor disbelieve in ghosts, but we can't deny the fact that some anomalies are caught on camera that science can't explain.

Trouble is, we ask for all this proof, yet when we recieve it, we brand it and cast it aside as "fake".

I'll believe when i have a personal experience, until then i'll class myself as an open minded sceptic.

ghosts certainly exists. it is perhaps only the selfish parts of our minds which endorses the contrary. the idea that something out there exists beyond our full understanding and comprehension is certainly reprehensible for our inflated egos which says "i can prove anything." ghosts certainly do exist. and you don't have to have a first-hand experience to sort this out.

The comment about the Scream character being used as a prop for the 9ft tall monk has got it wrong. For almost 20 years that picture has given me the creeps, and as far as I know Scream was made in the 90's. So unless the photographer had a time-machine and came into the future just to get the perfect model for their hoax then I seriously doubt MacGyver has ever read World Book Encylopedia where that picture was listed under Ghosts.
I have been chasing ghost pictures and stories for as long as I can remember, and in my opinion there does appear to be a figure above the van in the granny shot, but because the man behind her is too realistic just the shape of the tree and shadows may discredit it. but it is there and I will take it as the ghost in that picture.

You're right ^ Lack of evidence is not evidence. You cannot explain something by calling it unexplainable. That doesn't mean that ghosts do not exist, however. I think the concept of ghost is different for everyone, and your guess is as good as mine, or anyone elses. Science is not presently technologically advanced enough to detect or document spirits of the dead, so disbelievers can wait, but in the mean time should not dismiss those of us who have experienced legitimate paranormal phenomena simply because their Science cannot explain it. Like someone else said, wait until it happens to you. It is close-minded rather than open-minded to instantly attribute odd events to ghostly phenomenon, but there are genuine instances - I personally have experienced them.

8. Good grief, you are kidding.

7. Obvious long exposure

6. Some "Civvy" sauntering past in the background.

5. Hour long exposure... so someone walked in and sat down for a minute or so. Big mystery there !

4. Demonstrated to be an accidental double exposure.

3. A guy in a shrub... ooooo spooky.

2. PARADOLIA... google it

1. Floating head ghost huh... apparently theres a video floating around the net of the same scene from a different angle and its just a burning beam. Paradolia again.

Of the 10, I have a beef with photo Number 5 of the so-called Lord Combermere. The sunlight is on his arm, his legs are crossed as he sits on them (you can see his foot with black sock) and the frame on the table is a mirror of his reflection (you can see the top of his bald head in it). The other 9 or truthful and correct. Ghosts are very real.

People are skeptical of everything without absolute proof, yet they'll build their entire lives around a book full of stories that has been changed and molded to suit men's needs for centuries.

Believing in something without absolute proof does not make one unstable or deluded or foolish. You look at the evidence that exists and take a stance one way or the other on questions that have no answer...and that's all one can do. Bashing someone for seeing it differently than you do is small minded and silly.

It is interesting to entertain the concept of ghosts from a couple of stand points. Human beings have a unique capacity to see patterns where none actually exist. Humans are easily led to see something at the suggestive conclusion of others otherwise sales wouldn't be successful at all, nor would good story telling thrill us with spine chilling imagination. There are many phenomenon in this world. A freak atmospheric condition kept a civil war unit from hearing the sounds of battle less than a mile away. Humans also have the unique need and desire to believe there is no end but something beyond this life. We see things we want to believe. During the middle ages visions were rampant among the flagellants. I can't imagine why poor diet, self inflicted anemia, ghastly sanitation, and the world collapsing around you would cause hallucinations. Having said all that, humans have also constantly learned about their world in ways that debunk previously thought inviolate laws of the world: germ theory versus humoral, existence of life in unimaginable deep sea environments and ice sheets, the fact that moving at the speed of sound does not cause us to fly apart and so forth. It is certainly true that these were all reproduced scientifically according to the vital tools of the scientific method and peer review. It is, however, also true that many of these discoveries were accidental. Perhaps one day, someone may accidentally discover a way to peer into a state of being no one ever thought could exist. In any event, the world is a richer place with such tantalizing ideas because it thrills us and fills our minds with both excitement of ghostly stories and the idea that there are still mysteries to be discovered even if it turns out not to be what we thought it to be. Like many things, obsession can be be a two edged sword - both destructive and in some cases revolutionary. A great exercise is to be able to argue both sides of the coin not to prove anything but understand perspective.

I once had an encounter with what I will call an entity of some sort. When I was about 9 years old, we lived in a really big, barn style house made in the 1800's. At the time my little brother and I were sharing a room with a bunkbed and a desk, with green carpet and brown wall paint, and a yellowish tan ceiling with a 4 armed light source type thing. One night the light snapped on and I dont know why, but I could tell that my brother woke up at exactly the same time I did, without a single move in our shared bed. The lights flicked off and there was a , well, it seemed alot like a lightning bolt came right through the roof, and took the form of a humanish figure. I say humanish because it was a flowing type of shape, like, you can tell a glass is a glass even though the water inside is moving kind of thing. It had lit the entire room up and just as fast as it had taken shape, it flew out of the room, through the door and dissappeared. I was already awake trying as hard as I could to make sense of what happened, but shrugged it off as something I had to be dreaming. The following day, I had a 2 hour conversation about it with my brother who told me about it before I had ever said a dang thing. TO THIS DAY I have those images seered into my mind. The colors, the light, the fear.

I used to believe in Ghost and such and I though that they were realy beings that hadn't passed over. I went on many ghost tours, all night viduals, etc. and saw what I though was some damning evidance for their existance. Then I discovered the internet, all the photos online, the evidance and I though it was all crap, I could mostly explain what I read and saw and the stuff I couldn't others explained for me. For a while I thought I had the only 'true' evidance of ghost existing until I started applying the same scrutany to my own accounts and I found my 'evidance' to be just as fallible. Not long after that I discovered the skeptical movement and all the good work they do to help people find the truth about contrivertial issues as these. I'm not a 'close-minded' skeptic, I'd love for ghosts to exist, bigfoot and aliens, I'm a hopefull. I just haven't seen any clear cut evidance that isn't anidotal (Memory, single photo, eyewitness). The mind plays tricks on us, I've seen many 'ghosts' in haunted locations but I can also see them when I'm overly tired and such which leads me to believe that they are mearly an artifact of my mind. I know I wont convince the people who are sure of what they see, hear, smell whatever, but those of you who are not so sure, look at all the evidance and not just from one side, you have to balance it. See if the people make sense and that their story doesn't change over time. Make yourself aware of at least some logical fallicies so you can recognise them if either side makes them. Don't just blindly stumble into this and say "Well, heaps of people believe in this, it must be true." We have had mass delutions before, we used to believe that the Earth was the centre of the universe, some people believe that vampires really exist.

All I'm asking you to do is think about it, not to change your opinion, just take a deeper look than dedicated ghost photo sites who are only going to tell you what to think.

Cut out people! Ghosts can be real to some, fake to others. Your beliefs are your beliefs. I believe in ghosts but I still have great skeptism. It's in the blood or brain, or something to not believe in what we can't see. Expect the unexpected and believe the unbelievable. Besides, belief or not, you have to admit the pics are cool and ghosts are awesome! And, about the photoshopping, if someone does that they're stupid. It doesn't help anyone. Stick with your 'truths' people. Well, the people who actually took these photos(dead or alive, LOL). I agree the black thing in the background of the grandma pic looks cool, but the 'grandpa' looks waaaay too Real, as in, like a real person standing behind the woman. L8r!

I realized the figure thats not the old man, the dark figure. It reminded me of Death, and the story kind of told me that Death brought him back to see his wife. But then again, I don't really believe in Death, and thats probally shading from trees, but its pretty cool to think about. :)

> Religious/ Paranormal beleivers = People who are so desperate for there to be more than this life that they are easily fooled and/or have trouble telling thier minds wanderings from reality.

It's 'believers' and 'their' by the way. ;) Anyway... really? Hm. That's fascinating, because I am one of those believers and guess what? I'm not "desperate" for there to be more than this life. If I'm wrong and there is no God or Heaven, then when I die, I'll simply cease to exist. That's it. Big deal. No desperation here.

In regards to ghosts, I used to be a skeptic. I'd listen to people talk about experiences they'd had and while it was interesting to hear, I didn't believe it, until later, when I had my own experience. That's what it takes. Not seeing a picture that someone else took, but having your own experience.

My uncle, used to be a skeptic, as well. The kind who would laugh and make rude comments to people who did believe, until he had his own experience, too. The one he had, scared him, and because he always laughed at others, when he came home that afternoon for lunch, he didn't tell my aunt what was wrong, even though she could see that something obviously was, by the way he acted. It took him a few days before he finally did, and only because she kept asking and was getting worried about him. After he told her, he told her not to tell anyone, but she told my mom. That was twenty years ago and even though he now knows that my mom and I know about it, he'll change the subject if I try to bring it up, so it's clearly still uncomfortable for him after that many years.

So, again, someone who doesn't believe is only going to believe, if they have their own experience.

Being someone who has done years of paranormal researching and investigations, I have seen some wild and unexplainable things. I will point out that most of the time, I would go do an investigation and get absolutely nothing. But there were those few events where I could not debunk or explain away the things that I and my associates witnessed.

I have seen most of the photographs on this site before, and only offer my own opinion that most of them are probably altered in some way. However, I also admit that there are things in this world that we will probably never have an explanation for.

I enjoyed checking out your web site, it was fun and entertaining. Good luck with it.

Hello my name is michael and I study paranormal. I came across this I am trying to get in contact with the family of the woman to see a photo of the grandfather so try to line up the faces. This is pic was done one film and I also like to see the negative. Outside all that I do think their is a person standing behind the older ladie but with the sun hitting the face its removed alot of the face detail. Some areas might have took on diffrent shape so the family was not able to see whom was really in pic. the only way is too see pic of grandfather and then try to match them up. If you guys want to see a paranormal group in action please look up Parramatta Paranormal Soceity on facebook. We got a youtube channel as well that you find on facebook

Not sure if this has already been noted, lots of comments and haven't read them all, but the #6 Freddy Jackson image is actually a double exposure of the guy in a slightly different position with his hat off. This was probably a long exposure photograph, and he readjusted himself in it. The ratios between the eye nose and mouth features are identical between the two. If there is any doubt however, easiest test is compare the eye bags under the right eye (his left eye), they are identical. With the only change being a slight height difference caused by him looking slightly down and to his left.

I search these sites and watch some ghost hunter shows because I'm absolutely fascinated by the subject. I really, really hope that the paranomal truly exists and that I get a chance to experience it myself. BUT - until I do, I am a skeptic. If you believe what you watch on TV and / or photos taken by strangers, that doesn't make you a believer. It makes you gullible. I REALLY want to experience this myself so that I'll know they exist. Until that happens, this all shall remain entertaining. I hate to say it but I see more evidence that the paranormal does NOT exist the more times someone shows me evidence they DO. Orbs are lame. Ghost photos are always poor quality, horrible lighting and easily faked. The most compelling evidence on ghost hunter shows seems to be EVP's which I very easily faked by TV producers for entertainment. Hello? We're being sold entertainment so we'll watch the show and they make money. In closing - I REALLY want to have a paranormal experience. Until I do, it's all entertaining to me.

I am a firm believer of ghosts and other supernatural things around the earth.
When I was a young girl I had my first ghost experience. I told my mum about my friend that I had in the back yard and described her to my mum. My mum didn't believe me and put it down to me being a child, until she went to the neighbours one day and they asked her who was I playing with in the back yard. Confused my mum took round a relative and friend of mine round the neighbours and asked if this was her. The neighbour told my mother it wasn't an described the girl to my mum the exact same girl as I had described before. I moved house a little after that and never saw her again.
My second ghost encounter was when I was about 6. My parents had sent me to bed. I wasn't ready for bed so sometimes I'd sit on the top of the stairs. I can remember having a feeling like someone was watching me. When I looked up onto the landing there was a man standing there in like an old school shell suit. I can remember it so well. It was red, blue and grey in colour. He didn't say anything to me he just stood there. I ran down the stairs to my parents who then checked the whole of the house even the attic and found nothing. In that house we had some problems with the front door opening and closing and things being moved and not being able to be found.
My third gost encounter was in a friends house. It was late at night and there was three of us watching tv. I knew the house was haunted, but nobody had seen anything before. Anyway I've looked over to talk to my mate and as I have a tall white/grey figure has glided as a faster pace then walking past the door.
Since these three events I have never seen anything. I just wait for the next time.
I do believe some pictures, but others I don't. The longest I've ever been with a ghost was the little girl and I was too young to realise or take a photo of her. The other two times I didn't have a camera or it happened too fast. I believe a ghost will only show itself when it wants to. It doesn't have to prove that its there. & its not like they wait around thinking 'got visitors at ... Time need to stay in this exact place all night.' Maybe they want a peaceful life and they got cause by a simple mitake. It takes a matter of seconds to take a photograph.

Oh wow let me guess most of the posters here are from the USA. I'm English and oh hell yes we have ghosts. The fire picture is still disputed as the people who investigated it to disprove it only looked at a print add to that beams don't have bodices and skirts. I'm not going to insult anybody by saying nasty things, bit how can we prove the existence or non existence of ghosts, there have been stories of ghosts for millenia, yet nobody has solid proof that they do, yet at the same time we have no proof that they don't, bit when you get a room full of people in a 15th century house in York seeing a young woman in what looked like mid 16th century clothing appear and walk through a wall where there was once a door, and they all see this, well what would you think? I was there as was my partner who was at the time a skeptic, even he, who is exceptionally scornful about ghosts could not explain it, I just wish I'd had a camera. Sigh. Oh well, maybe next time, but seriously many of these pics were taken before the average person could have Photoshop, many are indeed from England, and many precede computers, well household ones anyway, so please folks don't just throw out the faked and photoshopped argument, actually look closer, and just take a moment to think about what could actually exist, there's just to many odd and unexplained instances for there not to be a decent argument for the existence of ghosts.
Thankies!

Ghosts exist, despite those obvious fakes. It´s easy for the trained eye to find traces of forgery in all of them, no matter how old. Image manipulation was used from the very beginning of photography decades before photoshop. There's not a single reliable image in the web that can be seriously be taken as a document.

Just to tell you that picture 10, 8, 7, 5 and 1 seem like there is something is there.
But On 9 someone just could of been sneaking around, 6 is just rude to the person that fought in the war even if there was something there, in 4 nobody can see the 'glasses', in 3 someone could just have been walking there and 2 looks like a drawn picture.
Just to say that all of this is rude to the people who are dead so this website shouldn't have been put up in the first place. The people should be resting in peace not being screamed at by random people who come by this website.
