Bible probably not true, Bush says

So, all of you who have held up George W. Bush as a paragon of Christian virtue: how do you 'splain this?

George W. Bush, outgoing President of the United States, now says that the Bible is "probably not" literally true.

Bush also says that evolution is not incompatible with the Bible.

Adding to his statement that he is "not a literalist", Bush also hedged immensely when he said that the most important lesson in the Bible is that "God sent a son". Ummmm... Georgie baby, if you studied the Bible at all, you would know that God sent His only Son.

I saw firsthand eight years ago that the Cult of Bush was anything but Christ-like. Bush and his faithful do not worship God: they worship raw, naked power. Bush just happened to say the right words and the "evangelical conservatives" - who are by far the dumbest bunch of fools that I have ever seen in my life and yeah I called 'em "fools" - fell right in line and sung his praises.

And now, just a few weeks before leaving the White House, he finally shows them, in no uncertain terms, that he is not like them at all.

I would say that I hope the "evangelicals" would learn their lesson from this, that they would finally engage the minds that God gave 'em... but I'm expecting them to just find another smooth-talking politician to latch onto.

According to the Bible, George W. Bush is probably not true either.

My father said in 2000 that George W. Bush would be used by God but not in the way that most American Christians would want. He said that Bush was going to attract to him the people who did not sincerely have Jesus Christ in their hearts. He said that they would love the power that Bush represented more than they really loved God. The ones who did love Christ would know the truth of what Bush was. And I believe my father was right.

What do you believe about the Bible Chris? What do you believe about creation / evolution?

To the first Anonymous above: a number of people have told me much the same over the past couple of years.

And to the second Anonymous: what do I believe about the Bible, and about creation and evolution?

I believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. I also believe that God has left it to the individual believer to seek out for his or her understanding the truth that is in His Word.

That sounds like a simple thing, don't it? You wouldn't believe how much pure anger has been thrown this way over the years because of it.

And so far as the whole creation/evolution thing goes: yeah, I *do* have a belief about it. But it's NOT necessarily either "creationism" or "evolution" as most people would expect and demand it of an opinion. It's a rather complex paradigm that my personal cosmology stems from, and it's one that to the best of my understanding does NOT violate any scientific law, while at the same time it jibes perfectly with, what I believe anyway, that the universe is here because of divine act.

(No, it's not "intelligent design" either, which for reasons which I won't go into here I've always thought was hogwash.)

Maybe someday I'll post my thoughts here on that subject. It's had a number of years now to percolate. Perhaps it's time to share it with the world...

But I'm also more than content to realize that no matter WHAT my personal beliefs on the subject are, my own understanding will ALWAYS fall short of God's. The same is true with my beliefs on mundane matters like "denominations", etc. The truest wisdom is being wise enough to acknowledge that you are NOT wise at all.

(Conversely, this is why Johnny Robertson and those of his cult will likely forever be consigned to the status of jackass.)

That is probably the smartest thing he has said in 8 yrs.
