Damn the gods! New CLASH OF THE TITANS trailer unleashes the Kraken on your eyeballs

In general, I loathe remakes of original films. It takes a lot for a revamped movie to impress me.

But I am getting pretty darned close to sold on Clash of the Titans, if this new trailer is indication of what we'll see in theaters on March 26th a few months from now...

Mash down here for the Clash of the Titans trailer in full beautiful Quicktime!

I've never understood the inherent distaste for remakes. Some movies that we consider classics were remakes - the John Carpenter Thing , the Bogart Maltese Falcon and The Magnificent Seven come to mind.

I think it's just that bad movies are bad, regardless of if they're original or not. It can be easier to see that a movie is bad when you have another, good version to compare it to but just having a prior version doesn't automatically dock a movie points in my book.

And I find it especially odd coming from someone involved in theatre - do you tend to compare each production - and each subsequent performance of each production - unfavorably to the "original" or look at them on their own merits?

The problem is that the vast majority of the remakes today have nothing to do with the spirit of the original film, and everything to do with being cheap ploys for more money.

John Carpenter's The Thing is one of my all-time favorite movies. But for every good remake like that one out there, I would guarantee there are 15 or 20 remakes that have no business being made at all.

I'm still waiting for that revamp of Escape from New York that was being talked about a few years ago. I got to read the script and it is a brilliant update of the original concept (especially how the Duke broadcasts Snake's fight on television to the world outside of the New York prison).
