Ric Flair retires

"To be the man, you've got to beat the man, and I'm the Man!"

"Hey baby! Do you want to ride Space Mountain?"

"WHOOOOOO!!!"

Regardless of what you think of pro wrestling, he did survive a plane crash with a broken back and was told he'd never wrestle again. That was in 1974. He proved the doctors wrong and not only stayed active in one of the most physically demanding of spectator "sports", he also became one of the greatest performers ever to grace this form of art.

(Look, I'm trying to be serious here...)

And now an era has drawn to a close, as Ric Flair has retired from professional wrestling.

And this being pro wrestling, he'll probably make a triumphant comeback sometime in the next six months.

"Whether you like it, or you don't like it, learn to love it--because it's the best thing going in professional wrestling today. WHOO!"

Ric Flair for the win.

My mother served him lunch a few of times back in the eighties, and remains smitten with him to this very day.

I remember seeing him at a WCW event in college and enjoying his showmanship. I think he and his family live (or did) down in Matthews, NC.

My parents rubbed elbows with him in an elevator in Myrtle Beach on summer, while they were on vacation. I can remember watching him and Hulk Hogan wrestle together back in the 80s. Great memories...

Hasn't he "retired" several times before? I know it's all part of the show ... but it's about time that it's for real.
