About Barack Obama and his birth certificate...

I confess: this hasn't been the biggest thing on my radar screen for the past several months. There've been more pressing matters that have demanded my attention, and that's shown up in the relative dearth of politically-oriented posts on my blog lately.

And besides: Barack Obama has to be a natural-born citizen of the United States to have even thought about running for President, right?

Right?

Here's what finally caught my notice and began raising red flags in my mind about the issue: that Obama has not only not produced evidence that he was born in Hawaii and thus is a born citizen of the United States - as required to be eligible to be President - but that he adamantly refuses to provide it.

And I don't think that we should be taking the word of any "official" in government that such a thing truly exists. We must be able to see it for ourselves. Journalists should be allowed to examine the original document. It needs to be posted on the Internet (specifically the White House website) as a high-res Adobe Acrobat file.

It's not like there should be any nefarious or incriminating information on a birth certificate. It's already well established that Barack Obama was born. We just need to know where.

I'm not saying that I'm aligning with one side or another on this issue. I am saying though, that in regards to eligibility per the Constitution this matter obligates nothing short of absolute transparency.

That should be insisted upon regardless of who is President or running for the office.

Oh, man. Really sad for me to see you descend into the kook-hole like this, Chris.

I've always enjoyed your quirkiness, but saying things like "It's already well established that Barack Obama was born. We just need to know where," marks you as someone who is beyond evidence and beyond reason.

My one bit of advice for you here is to find the courage of your convictions and just say you don't think Obama is a native-born citizen and that he has been sworn in illegally. "I'm not saying that I'm aligning with one side or another on this issue," is mealy-mouthed and meaningless. You align yourself with the birther conspiracy crowd just by saying the Certificate of Live Birth provided and authenticated by the State of Hawaii is no longer enough for you.

J.P., if I were running for President, and anybody asked to see my own birth certificate, I wouldn't have any problem whatsoever with bringing it forward.

And I'm being as honest as I know to be: I don't fall firmly on one side or another about this issue. But I do believe that Obama should want to produce it, and put an end to all doubt. 'Twould be a huge win for him against a significant segment of those who have been adamantly opposing him.

If he's a natural-born citizen, I'm fine with that. If he's not, then there is a problem... and enough of one that I find myself praying that Obama is a natural citizen.

Chris I got to say you hit the nail on the head on this one and i completly agree with you.

Calling Chris a conspiracy theorist is ridiculous. And its funny that he was drawing fire from the Bush supporters when he was president and now again from Obama supporters.

As far as I can tell, the birth certificate already provided is as legitimate as the certified copy I just had to get for myself, since I don't have my original copy. And if it was posted on the White House site, one assumes an "official" would need to provide it. :) One might disagree with his policies, but the birther conspiracy theory is a distraction from the real issues.

And I'm back from hurriedly updating my Blogger profile from blank to something. :)

Shane, you hit on one reason why I think this matter should get resolved one way or another: 'cuz if he does have a certificate, then it isn't a real issue.

And if he does have one then there are far more important things than, as you put it, this "distraction". There are also better things to disagree with Obama on (well, I think so anyway :-)

Putting a birth certificate on a public website as a PDF file is asking for trouble. For that matter, putting ANY person's legal document on a site is a mistake. PDF's can be easily manipulated, tweaked, copied, counterfeited, etc.

Obama did show a birth certificate and a certificate of live birth. A newspaper clipping in Hawaii announcing his birth in Honolulu has also come out.

Here's my proof

The Happy Catholic: VERY interesting! Speaking of the newspaper clipping.

That alone would be enough to convince me that he's a natural-born citizen after all, if I had any doubts.

QUESTION:

What happens to Judge Sotomayor’s confirmation as Supreme Court Justice if the Constitution’s “natural born citizen” Presidential eligibility requirement is subsequently determined applicable to Barack Obama on the basis of Article 2’s exclusion of dual citizenship birth (doesn’t matter whether Obama born in Hawaii since his dad was Kenyan/British citizen at the time)? It would seem prudent, if not dereliction of Constitutional duty in not so doing, for the United States Senate to defer voting on Judge Sotomayor’s confirmation at the very least until there is determination, now imminent, on standing in Kerchner v. Congress (USDC NJ) on that precise issue (Congressional failure to take up the raised and known constitutional ineligibility question prior to declaring a Presidential winner in the vote of the electoral college). For the full Senate now to proceed to vote to confirm Judge Sotomayor (an otherwise lifetime appointment) before then, would be a knowing and very substantial exacerbation of any inherent Constitutional crisis — compounding the previous Congressional dereliction. That is, the Executive Branch, as well as conceivably all actions of a Congress under a President determined ineligible, would leave the Supreme Court as an essential unfettered remaining Branch of the Federal Government, that is unfettered so long as Mr. Obama’s nominee to the Court is not yet confirmed by the Senate.

Will not one Senator, let alone Republican Senator, raise this issue on the Senate floor? The nation is watching.

A two minute Google, a trip to Snopes, or viewing any major news broadcast over the last 8 months (even FOX) is all that's needed to establish the facts in this case. Yet somehow, Chris has missed those sources. Oh I forgot, it's probably all a liberal government plot. After all, if they killed Popcorn they're capable of anything. Carry on.

Do you people call the Alan Colmes show at night and make prank phone calls? Its usually the pranksters and the "birthers" that start out his show every night and make for some excellent comedy. All you conspiracy theorists need is to figure out when the UFOs will land on the White House lawn and we'll find out that the President is an alien from outer space and that's why he won't produce his birth certificate. *CUE TWILIGHT ZONE MUSIC*
